Daniel Nikolaus Runge (born December 30, 1737 in Wolgast ; † September 22, 1825 there ) was a shipowner and merchant in Wolgast. He was the father of the painter Philipp Otto Runge .

Daniel Nikolaus was the son of the house carpenter Nicolaus Runge (1700–1766), who came from Lobbe on the Mönchgut peninsula on Rügen, and Maria Ilsabe Hagemann († 1788).

Daniel Nikolaus Runge was married to Magdalena Dorothea (* June 7, 1737; † May 31, 1818), the daughter of the Wolgast farrier and armorer Daniel Christian Müller and Martha Deuth, widowed Siewert.

The couple had eleven children:

  1. Maria Elisabeth (born August 14, 1763 - March 21, 1839), unmarried.
  2. Ilsabe Dorothea (born October 30, 1764 - † October 6, 1810), married to the tenant Helwig in Mecklenburg since 1787. Later landowner in Dahlen and Dishley in Mecklenburg-Strelitz . The daughter Wilhelmine (1791–1820) was married to Baron August Friedrich von Langermann and Erlencamp (1788–1863). Their daughter was Christine married Rauck.
  3. Regina Charlotte (born June 25, 1766 - † July 8, 1784).
  4. Johann Daniel (born November 29, 1767; † 1856), businessman. Was married to Mine Behrmann (1783–1862), daughter of a Hamburg archdeacon, since 1822. Edited the writings left behind by his brother Otto.
  5. Anna Christine (born October 21, 1769 - † April 9, 1827).
  6. Jacob Friedrich (born August 12, 1771; † June 7, 1811), merchant in Wolgast. Founded the first tobacco factory there in 1802.
  7. David Jochim (born July 19, 1773 - † January 27, 1843), tenant in Mecklenburg. He was married to the landlord's daughter Sophie Otto (1785-1853). His son Daniel (1804–1864) was a member of the Mecklenburg parliamentary assembly in 1848/50. His daughter Pauline (1807–1887) was married to Wilhelm Mussehl .
  8. Karl Gustaf (December 18, 1774 - December 19, 1777).
  9. Philipp Otto (* July 23, 1777 - December 2, 1810).
  10. Karl Hermann (born January 12, 1779; † after 1841), tenant in Mecklenburg.
  11. Gustaf (born December 13, 1781; † after 1841), arable citizen in Wolgast.
