Daniel Petersen (born January 6, 1758 in Broager ; † December 12, 1823 in Horst (Holstein) ) was a theological writer born in Schleswig .

Life

Daniel Petersen was a son of Pastor Lorenz Petersen († 1785) and Anna Sophia geb. Blechingberg. He studied theology in Kiel from 1775 and passed his exam in this subject in Gottorp in 1783. First he worked as a pastor in Holbøl in 1786 and in 1795 moved as such to the parishes of Oksenvad and Jels in the Harde Gram Herred . In 1796 he became a preacher in Fjelstrup in Haderslev Amt and then in 1800 in Bov near Flensburg . In October 1819 he was appointed pastor in Horst in the provost of Münsterdorf and on May 22, 1820 he was introduced there. After a long illness, he died on December 12, 1823 at the age of 67 in Horst. His wife, Botilla Helene b. Posselt was already different on January 29, 1800.

As a writer, Petersen became known for individual sermons and ascetic writings, which were held in a popular tone, particularly appealing to the part of the audience for whom he intended them. Petersen wrote his Timothy (3 volumes, Altona 1812–15) for educated compatriots . The third volume also has the title God Value, the pious childhood friend, or instructions for worshiping God in conversations about nature and human life . For memorizing in elementary schools, he selected a selection of sacred songs he published from the Schleswig-Holstein hymnbook (Altona 1815), and for domestic edification he wrote a devotional book entitled Der Christ in der Einsamkeit (Schleswig 1817). He spoke enthusiastically about the high value of the Bible in a sermon printed on Schleswig in 1816, and he spoke a word in honor of the Holy Scriptures in his Gamaliel (Schleswig 1817). From the mildness of his character and his active participation in the fate of his fellow men flowed his 1816 essay On the Value of Forced Poor Care in the Duchies of Schleswig and Holstein . Petersen pursued a similar purpose in his Patriotic Fantasies, or some thoughts, wishes and suggestions, corresponding to the increasing poverty of the lower class in the country ... (Schleswig 1819). He provided a fragmentary addendum to this work (1821–22). Poems and small prosaic essays by Petersen, mostly anonymous, can be found in the Schleswig-Holstein provincial reports.
