Daniel Tschiffeli (* 19th February 1664 in Bueren an der Aare , † 23. May 1730 ) was an in Bern active Swiss printers and booksellers .

Life

Daniel Tschiffeli was the son of Samuel Tschiffeli , Schultheiss zu Büren, Landvogt zu Grandson, and Margaretha Dubi. In 1697 he married Johanna Jenner, daughter of councilor Samuel Jenner . From 1691 on, Tschiffeli and his brother Gabriel ran the official printing company in Bern, headed by his brother-in-law Gabriel Thormann. In 1698 Thormann left the association, at the latest in 1709 his brother Gabriel too. In the years 1719 to 1721 Tschiffeli was in a legal dispute with his competitor, the printer Samuel Küpfer (1687–1765) because of the reprinting of authoritarian privileged fonts, which culminated in the suspension of the authoritarian printing company. In 1721, Tschiffeli was renewed his license as an official book printer and Küpfer was forbidden from reprinting by a court. In 1722, the two printers reached a settlement.
