Daniela Vega Hernández , (born June 3, 1989 in San Miguel ) is a Chilean actress and singer. She achieved great fame with the lead role in the Oscar-winning film A Fantastic Woman (2017).

Life

Daniela Vega was born on June 3, 1989 in San Miguel.

A few years after she was born, the family moved to Ñuñoa in the Santiago metropolitan area . There her brother Nicolás was born. At the age of eight, a teacher discovered her talent in opera singing . In addition to her work in a restaurant, she performed in small productions in Santiago, which increasingly aroused her artistic desire. In her free time she also took part in local theater performances without any acting training.

Career

Eventually she met a director and writer who suggested that she collaborate on a play based on the experiences of her transsexual career. This collaboration resulted in her acting debut in La mujer Mariposa (in German for example: The Butterfly Woman ), a drama by director Martin de la Parra. This work, in which she was also given the opportunity to sing, ran for eight years in Santiago. During this time she also appeared in other stage works; Here migrants should be emphasized, a piece about personal changes. Vega caught attention when she appeared in the 2014 video clip Maria by famous singer Manuel García . She had her first television appearance in 2015 in the drama La Visita (The Guest), in which she plays a trans woman who is looking for clues to her father.

The International Film Festival Berlin 2017 was a fantastic woman premiered, directed by Sebastián Lelio . A film that was hailed by critics for Vegas' performance. A fantastic woman tells the story of Marina and Orlando, a much older man with whom she lives in partnership and with whom she plans her future. After Orlando suddenly dies, Marina has to face the challenges and attacks that society has in store for her and show what and who she is: a fantastic woman.

“What she lacks in cinematic experience, she makes up for with a sense of style that she does not leave even in the cryptic moments of her character,” writes the FAZ Feuilleton. Other publications recommended her for an Oscar nomination for Best Actress . This was unsuccessful, but she won the award for best actress in a foreign film at the Palm Springs International Film Festival . In 2018, Vega also became the first self-confessed transgender person in the history of the Academy Award to host a contribution during an Academy Awards ceremony . In the same year he was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
