Danielle Alakija

Danielle Remilekun B. Alakija (born May 3, 1996 in Hillingdon , United Kingdom ) is a track and field athlete who competes internationally for the Pacific state of Fiji .

life and career

Alakija was born in England but grew up in Fiji. Her mother is of Nigerian descent and her father's ancestors come from Brazil and Great Britain . She herself is a citizen of Fiji, Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

In 2011 she competed for the first time in international championships for Fiji. At the Pacific Games , she reached the silver medal with the 4 x 400 m relay. The following year she represented Fiji at the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul .

At the Olympic Games in London 2012, she competed in the 400m run. Her time of 56.77 seconds in her lead was not enough to move into the next round. At just 16 years of age, she was the youngest athlete to compete in these Olympic Games.

At the time of her Olympic participation, Alakija was a student at Oaks Christian School in Westlake Village , California . Her coaches include Jenny Kenyon and Maurice Greene .
