occupation

Dans la poussière du soleil is a western not shown in German-speaking countries, which Richard Balducci staged with Maria Schell in a leading role. The plot is based on William Shakespeare's drama Hamlet .

action

In the small, dusty western town of San Angelo, the landowner Joe Bradford kills his brother and marries his wife Gertie. Their son Hawk, a slightly autistic-looking and simple-appearing boy, doesn't think that's right and decides to straighten things out. Joe was really only after his brother's ranch; Hawk finds out, after whom all the girls in the village are after, especially Maria, the sheriff's daughter, who also presents herself naked to him during a ride. Hawk can't do anything with it and brings her back across the saddle as God created her. The indignant sheriff confronts Hawk, whose steadfast handling of the pistol leads to the sheriff's death. That calls Maria's brother on the scene, a pistol hero who makes it difficult for the couple, who have meanwhile become in love, whose families go on against each other in a relentless final battle.

criticism

The film was barely noticed by the critics; Individual scenes such as the opening sequence were praised and the film as a whole was rated rather mediocre.

Remarks

The song Sur nôtre étoile is interpreted by Francis Lai .

There is disparate information about the year of production. Apparently it was shot in Almería in 1970, and the first performances took place in 1971. The film was regularly distributed (if only briefly) in 1973.
