José Calvo

José Calvo (often Pepe Calvo , actually José Calvo Salgado , born March 3, 1916 in Madrid , † May 16, 1980 in Las Palmas ) was a Spanish actor .

Life

Calvo dropped out of medical school to pursue an acting career. It had its stage premiere in 1934; In 1951 he was first seen on the screen. In the next thirty years he was seen in over 150 roles. Ancillary works for Juan Antonio Bardem and Luis Buñuel , he was a regular visitor to spaghetti westerns , for the first time as host Silvanito in Sergio Leone's A Fistful of Dollars . He played in numerous Spanish productions even after the western wave subsided, primarily in comedies and increasingly in television roles.

In 1970 Calvo received the Spanish Film Industry Award for Best Supporting Actor .

Calvo was married to his fellow actor Mercedes Barranco .
