Daphne Hellman

Daphne Hellman (* 2. December 1915 in New York City as Daphne Van Beuren Bayne , † 4. August 2002 ibid) was an American jazz - and easy listening -Harfenistin and philanthropist .

Live and act

Hellman, who was a member of a wealthy banking family, began learning the concert harp when he was twelve . In the next few years she was involved in acting and was a model, u. a. for Man Ray , before marrying Harry Bull, editor of Town and Country Magazine .

Immediately after the divorce in 1941, she married the journalist Geoffrey Hellman, who wrote for the New Yorker ; shortly afterwards she gave her first concert - at Carnegie Hall . She then played regularly in the city's night and jazz clubs. Among other things, she worked with Blossom Dearie and with Ving Merlin and his all-girl band. In 1958 she presented her debut album with Mitch Miller . In The Village Gate , she joined when she was in New York for 28 years every Tuesday evening with her trio Hellman's Angels to the long years bassist Lyn Christie belonged to. She played an eclectic mix from Bach to Brubeck to the Beatles . In addition, she was also active as a street musician and gave concerts in the city's hospitals for “Hospital Audiences, Inc.”, to which she also donated generously from her own assets. In addition, she made regular tours through the United States, but also through parts of Asia and Australia, but also through Madagascar. She also performed in Paris in 1984 .

In 1989/1990 she conducted harp workshops at the University of Arizona .

The guitarist Sandy Bull and the sitar player Daisy Paradis are their children.
