Darek Foks

Darek Foks, real name Dariusz Foks and pseudonym Bruno Kotilov (born July 27, 1966 in Skierniewice ), is a Polish poet , prose writer and screenwriter .

Life

Foks attended the Technical School of Construction in Skierniewice. After graduating from high school in 1986, he first studied Russian Philology and, after a year, Polish Philology at the Pedagogical University in Kielce , but he did not finish his studies. He made his debut in the 1980s with poems that were initially published under the pseudonym Bruno Kotilov in Radar and Okolice magazines.

In the 1990s he published his poems, short stories and reviews in the magazines Akcent , brulion , Nowy Nurt , Odra , Gazeta Forteczna and Studium, as well as in the Książki supplement to Gazeta Wyborcza . From 1993 to 1995 he did his alternative military service. From 1995 to 1996 he worked in the cultural center of the Voivodeship in Skierniewice, after which he studied at the Aleksander Zelwerowicz Theater Academy in Warsaw from 1996 to 1998 and also worked as the editorial secretary of the monthly magazine Literatura na Świecie . In 1998 he became a member of the Polish Writers' Association.

From 2002 to 2004 he was the chief editor of Aktivist and Exklusiv magazines , until 2004 when he took over the prose section of the Twórczość monthly . In 2004 he studied screenwriting at the State University of Film, Television and Theater Łódź , where he received his licentiate in 2007 . From 2005 to 2012 he was a literary reviewer for Playboy magazine .

In 2014 he was awarded the Silesius Wroclaw Poetry Prize for his oeuvre .

He lives in Skierniewice.
