Dario Fontanella

Dario Fontanella-Gregori (born January 7, 1952 in Mannheim ) is an Italian ice cream manufacturer in Mannheim and describes himself as the inventor of spaghetti ice cream (1969).

Life

His family comes from an ice cream confectioner's family from Conegliano ( Treviso ) in the Val di Zoldo in the Dolomites . The grandfather had owned a gelateria since 1906 . The father went to Hanover in 1931 to work for an uncle in the ice cream parlor. On his travels he came to Mannheim, where he opened his first ice cream parlor on April 18, 1933 in Planken , the famous shopping street.

Dario Fontanella grew up with an aunt in Conegliano and spent his holidays with his parents in Mannheim. Today Dario Fontanella runs four cafés with up to 60 employees in Mannheim and supplies restaurants and supermarkets with his ice cream. In his factory he can produce around a ton of ice cream a day.

Dario Fontanella was awarded the Bloomaulorden in 2014 , which is Mannheim's highest civic honor.

For the Ecumenical Kirchentag Mannheim in 2017 he created an “ecumenical ice cream”, a milk ice cream with roasted brioche pieces mixed with a sorbete ice cream made from Riesling grapes .

He never had his spaghetti ice cream patented. He is regularly present in the media. The Galileo program on ProSieben made Fontanella the topic of three episodes, which were always broadcast in summer.

In Germany, ice cream manufacturers from 2008 to 2014 and ice cream specialist from 2014 to 2019 were recognized apprenticeships in which Fontanella had been training in its companies since 2008.
