Darius Jauniškis

Darius Jauniškis (born January 14, 1968 ) is a Lithuanian officer. Since 2015 he has been the head of the Intelligence Service Department for State Security of the Republic of Lithuania (VSD).

Life

In 2005 he completed his bachelor's degree in economics at the Lithuanian University of Education in Vilnius and in 2006 the officer courses at the Baltic Defense College in Estonia . From 2011 to 2012 he continued his education at college in the USA . In 2012 he received a Master of Strategic Studies from the University of Washington .

From 1990 to 1993 he worked in the Line Protection Department of the Ministry of Finance of Lithuania and from 1993 to 1994 at Vadovybės apsaugos departamentas of the Government of Lithuania . From 1995 he served in the Office of the Special Forces (Ypatingosios paskirties tarnyba, YPT). From 1997 to 2006 he was deputy head of the YPT, and from 2006 to 2008 YPT head. In 2002, 2004 and 2007 he took part in the missions in Afghanistan . From 2008 to 2015 he was in charge of the special forces ( Specialiųjų operacijų pajėgos , SOP). Since April 14, 2015 he has been the General Director of VSD. He was appointed by the President of Lithuania, Dalia Grybauskaitė .

Jauniškis is married. He has five children with his wife Daina.
