Dark Sarah is a Finnish symphonic metal band that Heidi Parviainen formed after leaving Amberian Dawn in 2012.

biography

Founding and creation of Behind the Black Veil (2012-2015)

After singer Heidi Parviainen left her former band Amberian Dawn , she began working on Dark Sarah's debut album Behind the Black Veil . The name Dark Sarah goes back to a character called Sarah, who was in the first song Save Me . Sarah left here by her fiancé at the altar and runs crying into the forest. She decided to create a concept album that was about the dark side of Sarah. In order to draw the audience's attention to her project, she asked the musicians Kasperi Heikkinen, Teemu Laitinen and Jukka Koskonen to record the first two songs, Save Me and Poison Apple . That led to Dark Sarah's debut album Behind the Black Veil .

To fund the project, three separate Indiegogo campaigns were launched. They were all fully funded by the fans. The CD was recorded in three parts, called episodes, with the first episode containing the first 4 tracks, the second tracks 5 to 8 and the third tracks 9 to 14. For promotional purposes, the Violent Roses EP contained episodes 1 and 2 and went on sale during the 2014 Metal Female Voices Fest . Only 250 copies were pressed.

Meanwhile, the rest of the recordings for Behind the Black Veil continued. On September 27, 2012 it was announced that Manuela Kraller (ex - Xandria ) would be performing as the character "Fate" in a duet for the song Memories Fall.

Two more collaborations were later announced. On January 13, 2013 Inga Scharf (character "Queen of No Good") and Stefan Schmidt from the German metal band Van Canto for the song Evil Roots and on August 29, 2014 that of Tony Kakko ( The Moon ) from the Finnish metal band Sonata Arctica for the song Light In You . Heidi completed the text with the help of Emy Frost, Janne Storm and Perttu Vänskä and the music with the composers Emy Frost, Janne Storm, Mikko P. Mustonen and Stefan Schmidt. The guitarists Sami Salonen and Erkka Korhonen, the drummer Lauri Kuussalo and the bassist Jukka Koskinen were accepted into the official line-up of Dark Sarah, who had now turned into a live band. Heidi remained the main character. Bassist Jukka Koskinnen soon left and was replaced by Rude Rothstén. On April 29, 2015 it was announced that drummer Lauri Kussaloit had left Dark Sarah in order to concentrate more on his own music. He was replaced by Thomas Tunkkari. Videos for the songs Memories Fall (feat. Manuela Kraller), Hunting The Dreamer and Light In You (feat. Tony Kakko) have been released.

The Puzzle (2015-2017)

On December 16, 2015, Heidi announced on her Facebook page that the recordings for the first songs on the next album had started. On March 6, 2016, the first teaser of the new album was released together with the name The Puzzle . The story of the album continued from the point where that of the previous album ended. Heidi explains it this way: The Puzzle is also a concept album and continues the story that began with the debut album Behind the Black Veil . After the evil tree died and Dark Sarah's soul went with it, they flew along the river of death. The streams led them to an island where the exiled souls are brought. To leave the island, she must solve the puzzle and find three keys.

Again an Indiegogo campaign began to fund the album, this time without multiple episodes. Full funding was reached at the end of the campaign. The first video for the album was released on April 15, 2016 under the name Little Men . On April 24th, Heidi revealed on her Facebook page that three guests will appear again on the new album. Manuela Kraller (Ex- Xandria ) returns as the character Fate from the song Rain and Juha-Pekka Leppäluoto ( (Charon , Northern Kings) ) played the character The Dragon in the song Dance With The Dragon . On September 13th the third guest was announced, Charlotte Wessels ( Delain , Phantasma) will play the character Evil Siren Mermaid in the Song Aquarium , along with the information that The Puzzle will be released on November 18th in Europe and North America.

A lyric video from the Song Aquarium was released on October 18 .

The Golden Moth (since 2017)

In March 2017 it was announced that a third album was in the works. JP Leppäluoto returned to repeat his role as "The Dragon", joined the band and composed the music for the album with Heidi. Another crowdfunding campaign to raise money for a new music video has also been announced. The description on the crowdfunding page reads: "The concept of Dark Sarah is based on a story that tells of a young woman named Sarah and her fight against her evil side, Dark Sarah. The albums tell a story about her journey through three worlds - The Middle World, the world of life ( Behind The Black Veil album) and The Under World where the dead dwell ( The Puzzle album) and The Upper World where spirits and gods dwell. "The new album was also called one Continuation of the story of Dark Sarah and The Dragon (the ruler of the underworld) described who meet again in The Upper World. The next Indiegogo campaign started on October 26th and was fully available on December 14th. There was also the title of the new album The Golden Moth and a new music video for the song Trespasser . On November 2nd, the singer Zuberoa Aznárez of the Spanish metal band Diabulus in Musica was revealed as the first new guest on the album as the violent goddess Iron Mask on Dark Sarah's Facebook page. Later on December 3rd, the other two guests were revealed, singer and bassist Marco Hietala from Finnish metal band Nightwish as God White Beard and accordionist Netta Skog from Finnish metal band Ensiferum as the accordion playing Fortune Teller.
