Darrow Hooper

Darrow Hooper ( Clarence Darrow Hooper ; born January 30, 1932 in Fort Worth ; † August 19, 2018 ) was an American shot putter .

Hooper attended Texas A&M University at College Station and became an NCAA champion in the shot put in 1951 .

In 1952 he won with his personal best of 17.41 m in the US elimination match for the Olympic Games in Helsinki , where he won the silver medal. With its width of 17.39 m it was only two centimeters behind his compatriot Parry O'Brien . Jim Fuchs (17.06 m) completed the US triple triumph.
