Darshano L. Rieser

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Darshano L. Rieser for short DaO (born May 17, 1956 in Zell ; bourgeois Ludwig "Luggi" Rieser ; alias Swami Prem Darshano ) is an Austrian mountaineer and climber and, by his own admission, iconoclast and mystic . He lives with his family in Brandberg .

Life

Rieser first attended secondary school and then attended business school. Afterwards he trained as a druggist and passed the final exam of the three-year training with distinction after just two years. After completing his professional training, he and his mother initially ran the grandmother's drugstore . He expanded the newly established Rieser and Malzer company to include two more drug stores, a health food store , a perfumery , a beauty salon, two tanning salons , an event organization and a newspaper publisher .

Rieser studied the teachings of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh and then took his spiritual name Swami Prem Darshano . He still carries the part of the name Darshano in his name today.

Services

Darshano is a top climber who has made almost 300 first ascents since the mid- 1970s . All of his first ascents are shaped by his high ethical approach to climbing. Its routes were all developed from below, not secured with bolts and are pure free climbing routes . Darshano climbed in many places around the world, but it is probably the Alps that keep inspiring him to new things. The Zillertal Alps , the Rofan Mountains and the Dolomites are at the center of his development work.

His most important first ascents include:

  1. Mephisto , Heiligkreuzkofel , 1979, VIII- (UIAA) , first new route in the Alps with no drill hooks in the VIII degree (UIAA) , climbers: Darshano and Reinhard Schiestl
  2. Odyssey , Wilder Kaiser , 1984, IX- , first new route in the Alps without a drill in the IX. Degree, walker: Darshano and Wolfgang Müller
  3. Steps across the border / vertical to the Tao , Marmolada , 1995, X- , first new route in the Alps without drill hooks in the Xth degree, walkers: Darshano, Ingo Knapp and Hanspeter “Jesus” Schrattenthaler

In 1985 Darshano took part in an expedition to the Annapurna north-west face led by Reinhold Messner . In a rope team with Reinhard Patscheider and Reinhard Schiestl , he reached an altitude of 7200  m . Too much snow stopped the further ascent and forced them to turn back. During the descent, Patscheider fell down a 400 m high ice flank. Fortunately, he was uninjured, but the rope team decided not to attempt another summit.

Darshano became known not only because of his climbing ability, but also because of his sometimes unusual climbing clothing. So he climbs again and again in a yellow tailcoat and top hat.

Darshano was also very successful as a hang glider . Between 1976 and 1982 he held multiple records in cross-country flight , in altitude gain and in endurance flight.
