The Darwin Firn Field is a large firn field in the southern East Antarctic Victoria Land . It lies on the west side of the Cook Mountains and the Darwin Mountains in the Transantarctic Mountains . It is the origin of the Darwin Glacier and the Hatherton Glacier .
The New Zealand team to explore the Darwin Glacier on the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1955-1958) named the firn field after this same glacier. Its namesake is Leonard Darwin (1850–1943), Honorary President of the Royal Geographical Society .
