The Blue Wonder (project)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Blue Wonder is a project by the water ambassador Ernst Bromeis from Davos . With the Blue Wonder, water ambassador Bromeis wants to draw attention to the fact that water is a finite resource and not unlimited. The project should not be confused with the Dresden Elbe Bridge of the same name or the Dresden play .

history

The idea for this came when Ernst Bromeis-Camichel was having a coffee and saw Switzerland and its lakes depicted on the sugar sachet. He noticed that the canton of Graubünden was "empty" and started looking for lakes in Graubünden. He found over 200 lakes (as a lake he considered all standing waters, which had an area of over 10,000 m²).

Thus Ernst Bromeis-Camichel realized his idea "Graubünden - the Blue Wonder" in July 2008 and crossed more than 200 lakes in the canton of Graubünden in stages during one month. He found sponsors who supported the project. He covered the route between the lakes on a racing bike, mountain bike or on foot. Ernst Bromeis already received a lot of media attention with this project. He was accompanied by the photographer Andrea Badrutt and alternately by the supporters Thomas Meyer, Kaspar Stettler, Andy Wirth and Thomas Ruf. Ernst Bromeis-Camichel then published a book entitled "Graubünden - the Blue Wonder" , which shows the beauty of the canton of Graubünden and the water.

Ernst Bromeis-Camichel developed the Blue Wonder further and planned a nationwide campaign that was more comprehensive and extensive. The goal was to swim through the largest lake in each canton. For 1 ½ years he organized his project and looked for sponsors to realize his project. He could count on the experience from 2008. Ernst Bromeis-Camichel swam through every largest lake in a Swiss canton between July 1 and August 1, 2010, a total of 310 kilometers.

From lake to lake he traveled 1,500 kilometers on a racing bike. His support team consisted of the photographer Andrea Badrutt and the supporter Thomas Meyer. The media interest was very high and almost every Swiss region wrote about Ernst Bromeis and the Blue Wonder Switzerland 2010. In order to present his plan and his message to the population, Ernst Bromeis acquired four overseas containers. Three of them were set up by artists and stood on the Theaterplatz in Chur during the project . The fourth container followed the Blue Wonder Switzerland 2010. It stood at the Lucerne Congress and Culture Center, the Montreux Jazz Festival, the Olympic Museum in Lausanne and the Waisenhausplatz in Bern.

The third project, The Blue Wonder - Rhine 2012 , ran from the beginning of May 2012 , in which Ernst Bromeis-Camichel wanted to swim the Rhine from its source on the Oberalp Pass to its mouth in the North Sea near Rotterdam . This campaign, for which Switzerland Tourism was the main sponsor, broke off after around 400 km for health reasons.

Two years later, on July 7, 2014, Bromeis started his second attempt on Lake Dentro in the Lukmanier Pass area to swim the Rhine from its source to its mouth. Unlike 2012, his team only consisted of four people. Again he struggled with high tides and very low water temperatures. Due to high water, he was blocked at the Iffezheim lock for almost a week before he could continue his expedition. On August 20, 2014, the 44th day of his expedition, he swam out into the North Sea at Hoek van Holland after a stretch of river of 1,247 kilometers. He could not or was not allowed to swim around 200 kilometers of the expedition - he consistently covered it on foot. He described his experience on the blog on his website.
