The Flower Wonder is a German silent film that was made between 1922 and 1925. It consists mainly of time-lapse footage of plant movements. The footage comes from BASF and was originally intended to be used for advertising purposes. In the end, however, the decision was made to prepare the recordings for the cinema and to supplement them with dance performances from the educational film company.
The premiere took place on February 25, 1926 in the Piccadilly Theater in Berlin .
Contemporary criticism
The floral wonder was enthusiastically received by the critics.
- Rudolf Arnheim : "The most exciting, fantastic and beautiful film that has ever been made".
- Max Scheler : “You can see the plants breathing, growing and dying. The natural impression that the plant is inanimate disappears completely. You see the whole drama of life - the unheard of efforts ”.
