Max Reichmann

Max Reichmann (born November 29, 1884 in Strasbourg , † February 3, 1958 in San Francisco , United States ) was a German film director .

Live and act

Reichmann first worked in various film areas, including in 1921 as a manager at Ewald André Dupont's two-piece children of darkness . He made his directorial debut in Vienna in 1923 as a co-director with Die Geliebte des Morders .

In July 1923 Reichmann returned to Berlin and initially worked a. a. 1925 as assistant director for Dupont's classic film Varieté . Since then, Max Reichmann has directed several films, mostly crime novels and adventure stories, in which actors such as Paul Wegener , Jenny Jugo , Harry Liedtke , La Jana and Olga Chekhova took part. In January 1929 he founded Max Reichmann Filmproduktion GmbH . Reichmann became one of the pioneers of German sound films: he directed four sound short films, took over the direction of the sound film sequences of the originally silent film The Favorite of Schönbrunn and began working with the tenor Richard Tauber . In 1930 Reichmann achieved another big box office success with the film The Land of Smiles . The main actor and producer was Richard Tauber, production company Richard Tauber Produktions GmbH, Berlin . Composers like Paul Dessau and screenwriters like Walter Reisch worked for Max Reichmann.

Reichmann, who was of Jewish origin, disappeared from the public before the Nazis came to power in 1933. In 1933 he emigrated to France and directed the 9 minutes and 20 seconds short in the same year in Paris film L'apprenti sorcier (on dt .: The Sorcerer's Apprentice) after the same Goethe - ballad with Jean Weidt in the lead role.

Reichmann left France in August 1935 and initially stayed in Havana , Cuba . In July 1937, Reichmann traveled to New York via Miami . He married there in 1938 and then moved to California . There he settled in Beverly Hills , there is no evidence of cinematic activities in the USA despite its proximity to Hollywood . Reichmann was naturalized in 1943 and died 15 years later in San Francisco.
