The book The house of the sisters is a psychological novel by Charlotte Link in 1999 and plays in the bog of Yorkshire .

The story is about the Christmas trip of a German couple, Barbara and Ralph Amberg, who both work as lawyers . They travel to the Yorkshire moors and the journey is very different for both of them. The very first night they snow on Westhill House, a lonely farmhouse in the Yorkshire moor, and are cut off from the outside world. Barbara accidentally finds a thick manuscript that was hidden in the house. It is written about herself in the third person by Frances Gray, the woman who once heard Westhill. The manuscript describes the life of Frances, who was progressive and politically active even before the First World War , and her development until today, her family and unhappy love. The dwindling supplies are troubling the couple and the two protagonists' repressed relationship problems come to the surface.

filming

In 2002 the novel was made into a film for television directed by Rolf von Sydow . Christine Reinhart and Harald Krassnitzer played the couple of lawyers , Anne Brendler and Gudrun Landgrebe took on the role of Frances Gray.

Audio book

The book was published by Random House Audio as an audio book in October 2002 , read by Franziska Bronnen .
