Public criticism

The organization has faced various criticisms in the past:

  • Werner Erhard was one of the founders of The Hunger Project in the USA in 1977 and was a member of the global board until he left the company in 1990. During this time the organization was in connection with Erhard and his organization Erhard Seminars Training (est). The personality formation methods used in these seminars were compared by Sheridan Fenwick with those of Scientology . Erhard never worked for the German association Das Hunger Projekt , founded in 1982 . Initially, the only points of contact were that materials from the Hunger Project were displayed in some est courses and interested parties could find out more about the project. Because of the allegations against Werner Erhard, the Hunger Project in Germany broke off contact with Erhard and his courses in 1988 and expressly distances itself from him. Since 1990 there has been no connection between Erhard and the global Hunger Project.
  • Another accusation was that of failure to achieve the self-imposed goal of eradicating hunger worldwide within 20 years, i.e. by 1997.
