Landmark Worldwide LLC is a life coaching and personal development provider of seminars and training courses based in San Francisco . According to its own information, the company has more than 525 permanent employees in 52 regional offices in more than 20 countries (as of 2012).

Programs

The company offers a variety of seminars and programs in the field of training and development. The central course, the Landmark Forum , is also the basic course in the curriculum of life , which consists of three courses. Landmark aims at the extraordinary transformation of people and "being a master of life".

The Landmark Forum

The three and a half day Landmark Forum is Landmark Worldwide's basic course and the most booked worldwide. The Landmark Forum is a prerequisite for attending advanced courses. Among other things, participants consider the effects of decisions made in their past on the present. This should give them a new approach to their lives, their actions, their relationships and their future. Eighteen basic distinctions in Landmark work are taught.

Advanced course

In the three-day program, the participants should deepen the knowledge and opportunities gained in the forum: One focus is on group dynamics and interpersonal responsibility. The participants of the course coach each other. At the end, each participant says goodbye to his act , a bundle of all the truths, behaviors and fears that have determined life up to this point and creates a new possibility for his life.

Other programs

There is also an evening course, Forum in Action , the Self-Expression and Leadership Program , ten-evening seminars on topics such as fulfillment, time management, sex and intimacy , relationships, money , fitness , wisdom course and others.

history

Werner Erhard (2010)

Landmark Worldwide LLC was founded in January 1991 by some of the leaders of The Forum education program . Landmark bought the intellectual property rights of the Das Forum program from Werner Erhard (John Paul Rosenberg) and partners and used them as the basis for the Landmark Forum basic course , which has been revised and further developed over the years. There are now around 55 additional programs and seminars offered in 20 different countries. In June 2003 it was restructured as Landmark Education LLC, renamed Landmark Worldwide LLC in July 2013.

organization

Landmark as a company is owned by its employees. No employee holds more than three percent of the shares. According to its own information, Landmark invests the surplus in the development of programs and in order to make them available to a larger group of people. Landmark Worldwide advertises its courses almost exclusively through referral marketing, and in recent years an online registration option has been added. The training to run the Landmark Forum includes a three to seven year training program. There are around 760 seminar leaders and 58 forum leaders worldwide.

Vanto Group

The subsidiary Vanto Group (until 2007 Landmark Education Business Development ) offers training and consulting for companies and organizations.

Companies like Panda Express and Lululemon Athletica are paying and encouraging their employees to attend the Landmark Forum.

reception

The Israeli sociologist Gidi Rubinstein examined the Landmark Forum with the help of a questionnaire in a survey as " Large Group Awareness Training ". Such training usually starts from the assumption that people are able to change their own lives by changing not external circumstances but the way they interpret them. Rubinstein describes that forum participants are encouraged to notice the difference between fact and interpretation.

A comparative study examined the effect and transparency of the life support offers from Scientology , Landmark and a scientifically recognized psychosocial therapy as a control group. The surveyed participants of the landmark seminars showed neither an increase nor a decrease in the symptoms of complaints to any significant extent. In contrast to Scientology, there were fewer negative consequences of participation, such as the development of a dependency on the provider, albeit more than in the control group. The control group mentioned positive consequences most often. The study regards the use of group-specific language and the redefinition of terms as critical, as this could lead to a distancing from everyday life and the risk of an outsider role outside the group.
