Das Land der Vollidioten is a song by the South Tyrolean German rock band Frei.Wild , which originally appeared on March 15, 2006 on their fourth studio album Mitten ins Herz . It was later re-recorded for the album Hart am Wind and released as a single on October 9, 2009 .

content

In the song Frei.Wild deal with their love of home for South Tyrol and the tense relationship between the region and Italy , of which South Tyrol has been part since the end of the First World War .

In the chorus it says: “This is the land of idiots who think that love of home equals treason”, Frei.Wild also emphasize that they are neither “ neo-Nazis ” nor “ anarchists ”. Love for her homeland is not to be equated with politics. While folk musicians also sing about their homeland on television, Frei.Wild was criticized for the same textual content. The band describes the South Tyrolean population as "victims of a policy of rehabilitation" by Italy. She criticizes the fact that crosses are removed from schools "out of respect for children of different faiths". With the lines "We don't dance Adolf Hitler , we don't dance Mussolini " Frei.Wild alludes to the song Der Mussolini by the band German American Friendship from 1981. In addition, the group makes its aversion to the then Italian head of government Silvio Berlusconi and Gianfranco Fini , Karl Marx , Friedrich Engels , George W. Bush and Saddam Hussein clear.

Music video

That to the land of morons twisted music video was produced by the 3U studios and celebrated on October 27, 2009 YouTube premiere.

It shows the band playing the song in a room, with various historical film recordings, which are mainly in a political context, can be seen on a screen in the background. These include film sequences from the Vietnam War and the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 . Pictures of shootings, atomic bomb explosions, violent demonstrations, dog fights and the demolition of statues are also shown. Personalities that appear in the video include Silvio Berlusconi , Benito Mussolini , Mahmud Ahmadineschād , Marilyn Monroe , Charles Manson , Muammar al-Gaddafi , George W. Bush , Armin Meiwes , Osama bin Laden and Josef Fritzl . At the end of the video, the singer Philipp Burger burns a piece of paper with the inscription " To be German = be Nazi - Die Vollithioten ".

With over 17 million views (as of July 2018), it is the most-clicked Frei.Wild video on YouTube after Because you just kidding me .

single

The land of idiots was released on October 9, 2009, including the song Der aufrechte Weg as a single for download . The song couldn't make it onto the charts.

reception

When reviewing the album Mitten ins Herz on punkrocknews.de , Sebastian Kuboth described the land of idiots as a " hit song " and a "rock anthem" that "also has a lot to say".

On the website cdstarts.de the song was described in the review of the album Hart am Wind by Felix Liedel as "probably well meant", but "arguable", whereby "a bad aftertaste" remains.

In a contribution by Thomas Kramar to Frei.Wild on the Austrian online portal DiePresse.com 2013, the text of the song is described as "quite ambiguous" because the band does not expressly distance itself from right-wing extremism. The song content moves "in a legal gray area" and contributes to debates about the band's performance bans, which the author ultimately considers inappropriate.
