Philipp Burger

Philipp Burger (born March 25, 1981 in Sterzing , Italy ; nickname Fips ) is a South Tyrolean singer , songwriter , guitarist and author . He became known as the front singer and lyricist of the German rock band Frei.Wild .

Life

Time before Frei.Wild

childhood

Philipp Burger grew up in Brixen with a Catholic faith, which he has retained. His father is a geometer and his mother a teacher . Burger was her second child alongside two sisters. Even as a child he was musically active and so Burger played the recorder and accordion . He was also a fan of the Zillertal Schürzenjäger at the time .

youth

As a teenager, Burger was a skinhead and singer of the right-wing rock band Kaiserjäger . In the booklet of a demo CD, private pictures from the environment of his skinhead group at the time are printed. There you can find pictures of Burger with his right arm in a row of Nazi skinheads to the Hitler salute. In another picture you can see him with the bold greeting, which is also forbidden in Germany . The band broke up in 2001 after a concert ended in a mass brawl between German and Italian skinheads.

Burger then turned away from the scene. In later publications, including the fan biography published by Klaus Farin , Alone Forward , Kaiserjäger was later portrayed as a harmless provocation tape that would have been merely patriotic. Today he criticizes his right-wing youth in the harshest terms and describes it as the "shitty time of my life" . After graduating from middle school, Burger earned a journeyman's certificate as a carpenter . Then he went into business for himself .

Frei.Wild to this day

In September 2001, Burger founded the German rock band Frei.Wild together with Jonas Notdurfter, which Christian Fohrer and Jochen Gargitter soon joined. In the early years of the band, Burger still worked in the carpentry shop and had built up a relatively large craft business. He closed this to concentrate fully on the band, which he has not regretted to this day. Together they have released 16 albums so far and reached the top of the charts in Germany several times.

When they were left without a permanent record deal in 2008, Burger and their manager at the time, Stefan Harder, who had previously worked at Universal , founded the Rookies & Kings label, which in addition to Frei.Wild has and had many other artists from the German rock scene under contract. Among other published there also Matt Gonzo Roehr ( Böhse Onkelz ), hematoma , serum 114 , BRDigung and Untouchable albums and singles.

In addition to Frei.Wild, Phillip Burger also founded the charity project Wilde Flamme , a multinational band that worked with Peter Maffay , among others . Four singles have now appeared, the proceeds of which went to social projects. Together with the other members of Frei.Wild, he is also involved in the AlpenFlair festival , which is held annually near Brixen.

Private life

Burger is married and has two children. In 2014 he received an agricultural diploma , and a little later he also trained as a beekeeper . After living in Munich for years, he moved back to South Tyrol on January 1, 2019 and opened a farm there.

From July to September 2008, Burger was a brief member of the then bourgeois liberal-conservative party Die Freiheitlichen . After this membership was made public, Burger resigned from the party. In an interview with the television critics TV format , Burger denied his former membership in the party on the pretext that he had only had talks with the then party chairman Pius Leitner .
