Mensch oder Gott is the third studio album by Frei.Wild , the German rock band from Brixen in the Italian province of Bozen-South Tyrol . It was released on July 30, 2004 on the Belgian independent label Razorwire Records in a first edition of 1000 CDs, although it was originally supposed to appear in early 2004. On May 28, 2010 the album was re-released via Frei.Wild's new label Rookies & Kings .
Music style and content
The songs on the album are predominantly rock (e.g. Ich , Mensch or Gott ), as on later releases by the band. But there are also quieter pieces ( Heimat , pain of fantasy ). Thematically, the songs deal with alcohol , free drinkers and full of alcohol consumption and partying. The abbreviation BOUL stands for Böhse Onkelz Our Life and is a tribute song to this band . The song Heimat is a song of praise for South Tyrol.
Due to improved recording options, Mensch oder Gott has a significantly higher sound quality compared to the band's first two albums.
Cover design
The album cover of the first edition is kept very simple. It only shows two black Puma sneakers against an orange background. In the upper part of the picture is in white letters Frei.Wild and at the bottom the title man or god . Further editions are adorned with a cover in shades of gray, which shows the drawing The Vitruvian Man by Leonardo da Vinci . You can also see pictures of a moon landing and the Colossus of Rhodes in the background . The typical Frei.Wild lettering is in the center of the picture and beneath it runs a red band with the title Mensch oder Gott . The album cover of the re-release also shows the drawing The Vitruvian Man , as well as a self-portrait of Leonardo . A broken iron chain runs from top to bottom. In the right part of the illustration is the typical Frei.Wild lettering, as well as the title Mensch oder Gott .
