Gegengift is the seventh studio album by Frei.Wild , the German rock band from Brixen in the Italian province of Bozen-South Tyrol . It was released on October 15, 2010 via the Rookies & Kings label, founded in 2009 .
Music style and content
Most of the songs on the album are very rocky, only the titles Die Zeit verführung , True Values and Not Your Day are calmer ballads.
In terms of content you can find u. a. Songs about everyday experiences. For example, more than a thousand words is about a broken relationship, while the thoughts are free to call you to live your dreams. With Alone Forward , the band praises itself in a similar way as the Böhse Onkelz often did on their albums. In the song True Values , however, in the opinion of critics, "patriotic or even nationalistic ideas" are spread.
Cover design
The album cover is in black, white and red tones. It shows a symmetrical logo that includes guitars, microphones, drumsticks, and snakes. Above the picture is the typical Frei.Wild lettering and below the title Gegengift .

The album entered the German charts at number 2 in the 44th calendar week of 2010 and was at 16 in the following weeks; 23 and 29. Gegengift stayed in the top 100 for a total of 28 weeks (including the anniversary edition ). In Austria (# 15, 5 weeks) and Switzerland (# 66, 1 week) the band also made it into the top for the first time the charts.
As a single of the song was pre- alone forwards published. He was able to enter the German charts at number 66 for a week. In addition, videos were shot for the songs Not your day , True values and Because you just kidding me .
Sales figures and awards
In June 2018 Gegengift was awarded a platinum record for over 200,000 copies sold in Germany and gold in Austria for more than 7,500 sales.

Antidote received average to positive reviews.
- The online magazine laut.de gave the album three out of a possible five points. One certified antidote strong resemblance to the publications of the Böhse Onkelz :
" It really does seem as if Frei.Wild could fill the Onkelz's place in every respect. Musically, you've always been close, and the lyrics by singer and guitarist Fips speak a similar language. [...] All in all, "Gegengift" turned out to be a good album with lots of party and sing-along potential. Those who hated the band so far will continue to do so - whoever liked them will definitely enjoy the album. "
- The Metal Hammer gave the album five out of a possible seven points. The proximity to the Onkelz is also emphasized:
" Even if there will never be a real successor to the Böhsen Onkelz, the only ones who can even begin to get close (without wanting to) are the South Tyrolean Frei.Wild. [...] Somehow everything stayed the same, but not quite. That has to do with the fact that the current material has been completely re-composed in contrast to the previous material. The most important plus point is that Frei.Wild composed an album for their fans. Anyone who liked the band's previous work will also embrace antidote. Conclusion: everything done right. "

On May 20, 2011, a new version of the album was released for the tenth anniversary of the band called Gegengift (10 year anniversary edition) . This anniversary version offers a documentary DVD with film material of 100 minutes.

In addition to the pieces by Gegengift , the anniversary edition includes several previously published bonus songs , a new recording of the song Schlauer als der rest , which was previously only released on CD FEK9 - Die Deutschrock Monster , and five new songs. It also includes a DVD with a Frei.Wild documentary, interviews and concert recordings.

The anniversary edition of the album has the same motif as the standard edition, but is designed in a different color. Here, the colors of the central logo are black and white with brown and gray tones in the background.

After the anniversary edition was published , Gegengift succeeded in re-entering the German Top 100 for 16 weeks in early June 2011 (the sales of both versions were valued together), where it entered the fourth place.
In the run-up to the album, a new recording of the title Because you just kidding me was released as a single on May 6, 2011 , including an accompanying music video. The song was placed at number 87 in the German charts for a week.
