Rivals and rebels is the twelfth studio album from Frei.Wild , the German rock - band from Brixen in the Italian province of South Tyrol . It is a double album and was released on March 16, 2018 via the Rookies & Kings label as a standard edition and as a box set , including six bonus songs.
Music style and content
The album can be assigned to the genres German rock and hard rock . It contains fast, rocking songs (e.g. rivals and rebels ) as well as more profound songs (e.g. heart beats heart ) that deal with interpersonal relationships.

Rivals and rebels rose on March 23, 2018 number one in the German album charts and stayed in the following week at the top. In total, it stayed in the top 100 for 50 weeks. In addition, the vinyl record also reached the top of the German vinyl charts for a month . The album also reached number one in Austria , while it was third in Switzerland. In the German annual charts for 2018, Rivalen und Rebellen was number four and in 2019 position 53. After the release of the accompanying live album Rivalen und Rebellen - Live & More , the album again entered the German charts at number three in December 2018, as the sales of both Albums are added together.
On October 20, 2017, the title song Rivalen und Rebellen was released as the first single and reached number 60 in the German charts. On November 17, 2017, the second anti-welcome , which came in 43rd, followed. The third single Heart Beats Heart was released on December 15, 2017 and entered the charts at position 97. On January 26th, 2018 the fourth release And I Was Back Was Released. Music videos were also shot for the four songs . On the day the album was released, a video for We kill everyone was also released . Another music video followed on June 7, 2018 for the song Fick dich und verpiss dich . In addition, two videos for Forbidden Love, Forbidden Kiss were published on October 3, 2018 . On July 3, 2019, an animated video for the song Geartete Künste we already had was released . Another music video followed on March 8, 2020, International Women's Day , to scream, scream loud .
Sales figures and awards
As part of the Frei.Wild stadium show on July 5, 2019 in the Commerzbank Arena in Frankfurt, rivals and rebels were awarded a platinum record for over 200,000 units sold in Germany.

Manuel Berger from laut.de rated rivals and rebels with two out of five points. The album delivers "edgeless German rock", whereby "the guitar melodies dribble harmoniously and according to the same pattern over punched power chord accompaniment." The vocals are "always focused on simplicity for the blatant fans" and lyrically not very innovative. Some “Ska numbers and ballads” provided a bit of variety, with the song Auf ein nie wieder Wiedersehen being referred to as a “strong power ballad”.
