Anni Carlsson

Anni Ruth Carlsson (née Rebenwurzel ; born November 1, 1911 in Charlottenburg ; † February 20, 2001 in Berlin ) was a German specialist and translator .

Life

Carlsson, daughter of a banker, studied philosophy , German philology and history at the universities of Berlin , Cologne and Basel from 1931 . In 1939 she received her doctorate from the latter on the philosophy of Novalis under Nicolai Hartmann and Herman Schmalenbach .

Carlsson married a Swede in the late 1930s and initially lived in Gothenburg and from 1939 in Stockholm . In 1950 she moved to Göttingen and did not return to Berlin until 1996.

Carlsson published works on German and Scandinavian literature and their relationships and literary criticism. She edited the correspondence between Hermann Hesse and Thomas Mann (Suhrkamp, ​​Frankfurt am Main 1968; numerous new editions and translations).

Carlsson has translated numerous works by Danish, Norwegian and Swedish authors into German, including the “Picture Book Without Pictures” and fairy tales by Hans Christian Andersen , the family story “When the Chestnuts Bloomed” by Verner von Heidenstam , stories by Eyvind Johnson , Selma Lagerlöf and August Strindberg , Books for children and young people by Maria Gripe and Birgitta Stenberg and poems by Karl Vennberg .
