description
Within Poland, the area of the mountain is 370 km². It consists of the Carpathian flysch . The southern slopes are shorter and steeper than the northern slopes. It is densely populated on the Polish side, both in the valleys and on the mountain ridges. The original dense forest, which covered the area until the Middle Ages, has been largely cleared for alpine farming since the 13th century. Since the 19th century tourism gained in importance and agricultural use lost it. The Sklovak part is more forested and only sparsely populated.
natural reserve
Larger forest areas are now under nature protection, for example in the Niebieska Dolina nature reserve or the Skałka Rogoźnicka nature reserve . Limestone rocks occur on the northern edge, especially in the mountains Żdżar in Maruszyna (773 m), Cisowa Skała (668 m) and Obłazowa (670 m) near Nową Białą , Ranisberg (678 m) near Szaflary , which are also partially protected.
