action

Bulgaria in the 17th century: The wife of the shepherd Kara-Ivan is raped and killed by the Turkish besiegers. Kara-Iwan then flees to the mountains with his daughter Maria, who has become mute as a result of the atrocities. He teaches Mary the commandments of God and the art of fighting so that she should avenge her mother. Maria's will, however, confuses Kara-Iwan - she doesn't want to kill. Instead, she falls in love with a young man who instead of “Kill!” Says “I love you!” First.

criticism

The lexicon of international films said that the “second film version of an archaic tale about the contrasts between hate and love” was “embedded in the history of Bulgaria”.
