The bleached happiness of Svenne Köster tells the story of a German Obsessionisten , it has become a purpose in life, with its painful experiences in the former Stasi - prison of the GDR as a witness to exaggerate in his everyday life in Berlin. The 58-year-old main character Karl is tired of sharing his experiences in the Stasi prison in the GDR as a " contemporary witness " like sour beer to disinterested people in the area. As if triggered by compulsion, he repeatedly refers to the resulting knowledge in the present from his painful experience, towards acquaintance in a bar or the sister, a bourgeois woman who is constantly playing computer games. Karl doesn't want to forget the phase of suffering and thereby suppresses the fact that without looking back he would only have his cat.

Then he comes up with the simple and expensive idea of ​​inviting two escort ladies over the Internet for hours. The first companion doesn’t work out as hoped, she provokes him with sex and is also hardly the representative of the class that pretends not to notice “class”, which is very important to Karl. Her golf lessons are too vulgar for him. But first-class Lara shows him “class” when walking, talking and choosing clothes. He spontaneously turns her into the editor of her own book in order to enhance the reputation among friends. She does almost everything to do justice to his assignment for 300 euros an hour; gives Karl the perfect feeling to act in conversations and situations, real like on television. She builds bridges in modern youth language, over which he can easily chat without having the feeling that he basically understands little about it. She imagines him - just through her appearance - protection and security, in the regular pub and in front of the Warcraft- playing sister, in order to appear in Lara's luster as a satisfied person, as a writer who deals with his own suffering.

But the whole thing also shows a tricky side. The blinded take on the idea and make it clear to him how embarrassing and hopeless this endeavor could be in the long run. The sister realizes that he now has to offer the new friend something and Lara also rents the bar acquaintance (or does he even have a free date with her?). Karl seems to have achieved the goal that the "Stasi" had always warned him against: the Americanization of thought and action.
