Dieter Köster

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dieter Köster (born September 4, 1947 in Flensburg ) is a German film and television director , film editor , cameraman , author .

Life

After his apprenticeship and many years of activity as a telecommunications craftsman, Köster completed his second education . He has been married to Hannelore Conradsen since 1969 . In 1969 he made his first short film , Honeymoon Crime (with Hannelore Conradsen as the actress ).

Since 1972 he has worked as an author, editor, cameraman and director of cinema and television films, including for ZDF (Honorable Mention for Correspondence , Paris TV Game Festival 1974). In 1976 he completed his studies at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin , followed by work as a sound engineer , cameraman and editorial assistant. He often accompanies his film work as a photographer.

In the 1970s Köster made several films for young people (including with and by Robert Wolfgang Schnell : Holger lives in the zoo ). In the 1980s, award-winning films followed, dealing with the “ petty bourgeoisie in ourselves ”, as well as music films and later video clips (1st prize for hustlers , at the 1994 New York video clip festival). He made films and contributions for the TV series and magazines: Das Kleine Fernsehspiel , Logo , Denkste !? , Under German roofs , mosquito , 45 fever , close-up , 24 hours , backstage , ARD-Exclusiv , the documentary and over 40 portraits for the ARD series Highly Personal . He co-founded numerous film and television productions ( Pro-Film , Fuzzi-Film , C&V , mbu ). With Hannelore Conradsen, Köster also repeatedly creates subjective travel films: We can't stand the cold .

Design

As a documentarist , he mainly films small scenes, often only marginal observations, which he associates in long films with stories of ordinary people , but for him that is almost everyone, in the milieu of hairdressers , mass media , mood makers, top managers, formation dancers , pop music singers or for travelers on the Orient Express . Köster often thematizes in an entertaining way the tendency of his protagonists to subordinate themselves to different life situations and shows the consequences. For this he received a special prize at the Max Ophüls Festival 1983 for Wilde Clique , which was created because of this feature film .

In 2006/2007 he is working on a real animation in which he combines fiction and reality for the first time - via the Internet - in a surreal story: under the title Ich bin 3 Kirschkuchen (Gloria in Wonderland) .

In 2008, Köster defined his stance on “ making films and television” as follows: “ In contrast to widespread practice, I didn't want to make everything messy, completely clear and manageable, clumsy and flat and superficially lined up; the "message" into the audience with all available index fingers, fence posts and wooden hammers; where, if necessary, even under general anesthesia, you can see that art is being made here or what is generally taken for it and that without having to look closer in order to be able to pursue your favorite pastime: feeling great, but really great and concerned feel ... ”“ The bitterness of many intellectualized filmmakers is partly precisely that the television industry seems to function without them. Nobody misses their interpretation. As if they didn't exist (outside of the subsidized cultural playgrounds), the mass audience zaps from one distraction to the next. But that's just what it looks like. In reality, it's about communicating content in not only adequate language, but to be able to represent complex issues so that even viewers without high education (or an affinity thereto) could find their interest ... "

Private

His son is the qualified social pedagogue and filmmaker Svenne Köster . Dieter Köster lives in Berlin and Taroudannt , until 2005 he taught as a lecturer . From 2008 he no longer wants to realize his own TV productions and look for other perspectives: “ It was an interesting TV time, so I should remember it. "
