Dietmar Köster

Dietmar Köster (born January 6, 1957 in Schwerte ) is a German sociologist and politician ( SPD ). In the European elections in 2014 , he was in the European Parliament elected.

Life

Köster studied social sciences in Bochum. In 2001 he was at the University of Dortmund for Dr. phil. PhD. He was a co-founder of the "Critical Gerontology Working Group" of the German Society for Gerontology and Geriatrics (DGGG) and later chaired it. He then took over the management of the Geragogy Research Institute (FoGera) in Witten. He currently holds a professorship at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences .

He was local and municipal chairman of his party in Wetter . From 2002 to 2004 and again since 2006 he has been a state board member of the SPD North Rhine-Westphalia . In 2009 he ran in the European elections.

He has been a member of the European Parliament since 2014 . Initially, from 2014 to March 2017, he was a full member of the Legal Affairs Committee and a deputy member of the Committee on Culture and Education . In 2017, Köster changed its committees. Since then he has been a full member of the Committee for Civil Liberties and Justice (LIBE) , as well as an alternate member of the Committee for Culture and Education.

In addition to the committees, Köster is a member of the delegation for relations with the United States and a deputy member of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly.

Köster is a member of the Europa-Union Deutschland and ver.di and was u. a. Organizer of Easter marches .

Political

In the SPD, Köster is a member of the left wing of the party and is involved in the federal board of the DL.21 forum .

In the SPD , Köster is one of the most vehement critics of the free trade agreements TTIP and CETA . At a large demonstration in Cologne in spring 2016, with over 55,000 participants, Köster spoke on the stage. With the so-called Köster Oppinion at the beginning of 2015, Köster surprisingly achieved the most extensive statement against the planned agreements in the legal committee, with the decision clearly rejecting arbitration courts, for example.

In the European Parliament , Köster primarily campaigns against discrimination , antiziganism and anti-Semitism .
