The learned Hanover

The learned Hanover or lexicon of writers, learned businessmen and artists who have lived and still live since the Reformation in and outside of all the provinces that are part of the current Kingdom of Hanover is an encyclopedia of persons that was published in two volumes in Bremen in 1823 by Carl Schünemann appeared. Volume I from A to E and Volume II from F to Ku have been completed.

The publisher was Pastor Heinrich Wilhelm Rotermund , who worked at the Bremen Cathedral . He dedicated his work, which he had "brought together from the most credible writers", to King George IV. As a collaborator he named Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Catenhusen , Heinrich Dittmer , Johann Christian Hermann grid man , Georg Friedrich Mühry and Samuel Thörl .

Rotermund had announced its lexicon in advance in 1821 in the 17th and 18th editions of the Hanover magazine .

A reprint of the 1823 edition was published in 1979 in Munich.

The Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Library - Niedersächsische Landesbibliothek names Rotermund's lexicon in the data record on his person as the second of its "important personal lexicons " - after Rotermund's 1818 text Lexicon of all scholars who have lived in Bremen since the Reformation ... Both lexicons are listed in the Leibniz Library in their list of abbreviations of the biographical sources used for their database of Lower Saxony people .
