Johann Christian Hermann grid man (born July 27, 1768 in Dunum ; † January 20, 1834 in Emden ) was an Evangelical Lutheran clergyman, writer, hymn poet and doctor of philosophy. He was the eldest son of Johann Wilhelm grid man, preacher in Westeraccum († 1834), and his wife Ida Marie Reuter. His brother Rudolph Christoph Gridmann was a pastor in Eggelingen .

Life

Grid man was a bright boy and so his father first trained him at home and later sent him to the Latin school in Norden . There the rector Joachim Gerhard Wiedeburg and later the rector Johann Friedrich Mayer took care of his getting away. In 1786 he went to the University of Halle , where he studied philosophy and theology until 1788 . After his successful studies, he still had to pass the exam before the royal consistory in Aurich . He could shine with great speaking skills. But he did not get a pastor's position, but became head (preceptor) of the orphanage school in Esens . There he gave elementary lessons and on Sunday also the evening prayer hours. But the work did not fill him. The Countess von Üxküll-Gyllenband - Mistress von Dornum - offered him the opportunity to become a preacher in Resterhafe in the autumn . The small community made it possible for him to devote himself to poetry . In 1794 the Count von Wedel approached him and he became a preacher in Neustadtgödens . Here he was able to consolidate his reputation as a speaker. People came to hear him even from remote places. His reputation spread to Emden . So in 1807 he was offered the position of second preacher in Emden. Since Neustadtgödens had also become too small for him, he moved to Emden. When East Frisia was added to the Kingdom of Holland in 1809 , religious life was also to be reorganized. So lattice man and others were ordered to Amsterdam . He stayed there for three months for negotiations. The rules were still confirmed by King Ludwig , but with the dissolution of the kingdom, the rules no longer came into effect. An attempt from Aurich to poach him in 1812, he refused.

During the whole time he published many publications. For this he received a doctorate from the philosophy faculty of the University of Halle in 1818 . In 1825 he received the post of first preacher in Emden. In the fall of 1833 he coughed up blood ; despite the efforts of the doctors, he died in January 1834.
