Economic situation
Due to the poor infrastructure, Daskot is of little interest to young people, and of the once over a thousand inhabitants, fewer than 450 have remained. These are mostly made up of senior citizens , Roma and western immigrants who appreciate a quiet, rural life. This has the consequence that a large part of the property lies fallow and many houses fall apart. In Daskot, for example, many public buildings such as cafes, restaurants and former retail establishments lie fallow and are slowly falling apart.
An abandoned factory, in which electronic items (radios, TV sets) were manufactured at the time, and the former library and a crumbling church are witnesses of the once flourishing village life. A kindergarten is now located in the village school.
history
The later head of state of the People's Republic of Bulgaria , Todor Schiwkow lived in Daskot from 1938 to 1942, because his wife Mara Maleewa worked as a doctor there and in the neighboring villages. They married in 1938. Since 2012 the place has given its name to Daskot Point , a headland on the Oskar II coast of Graham Land in Antarctica.
