Daund is a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra .
The city is part of the Pune District . Daund has the status of a Municipal Council . The city is divided into 23 wards . It had a total of 54,493 inhabitants on the cut-off date of the 2011 census, of which 25,117 were men and 24,333 women. Hindus make up the largest group of the city's population with a share of approx. 71%, followed by Muslims with approx. 18% and Christians with approx. 7%. The literacy rate in 2011 was 87.46%.
Daund is a very important railway junction that serves as a stopping point for trains going south from Mumbai , Gujarat , Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan as a starting point or destination for northern India.
