Carl Heel

Carl (Karl) August Theodor Heel (born June 1, 1841 in Wolfenbüttel , Duchy of Braunschweig , † July 15, 1911 in Braunschweig ) was a German landscape and marine painter from the Düsseldorf School and a drawing teacher in Braunschweig.

Life

Heel was initially a student of Heinrich Brandes in Braunschweig. From 1859 to 1862 he studied painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . The landscape painters Hans Fredrik Gude and Carl Irmer were his teachers there. In 1862 he returned to Wolfenbüttel. From 1866 to 1910 Heel worked as a drawing teacher at various schools in Braunschweig, from 1881 as a high school teacher. In 1907 he was awarded the title of professor.

Heel created depictions of the Alps and the sea, painted landscapes from the Harz Mountains and the heath as well as the surroundings of Braunschweig, especially Riddagshausen . Stays on the island of Rügen are recorded for the years 1875, 1897 and 1900. Numerous works can be found in the Braunschweig Municipal Museum . Heel was given a grave of honor at the main cemetery in Braunschweig .
