Dave Barry (born August 26, 1918 in New York City , † August 16, 2001 in Beverly Hills , California ) was an American entertainer, actor, comedian and radio host.

Life

Dave Barry began his radio career as a teenager , and although he later worked in other areas of show business, he remained connected to radio for the rest of his career. At the end of the 1930s, he was active as a spokesman for animated films in the film industry, for example for Disney's Silly Symphonies series, which parodied numerous Hollywood stars of the time. Barry imitated the voices of various movie stars in these cartoons, the best known is probably his imitation of Humphrey Bogart in three films. For Capitol Records , he also voiced roles in popular cartoon series such as Bugs Bunny , Merrie Melodies , Pink Panther and Popeye .

From the 1940s onwards, Barry increasingly began to appear in front of the camera with his body as an actor, although his success remained rather modest. In 1948 he had a small role next to the then unknown Marilyn Monroe in the B-movie I dance in your heart . Eleven years later he was to play again alongside Monroe in what is probably his most famous role today: As Mr. Beinstock, the overwhelmed manager of a ladies' band, in the comedy classic Some Like It Hot by Billy Wilder . Barry has also been a comedian and entertainer on various theater and show stages for decades. In Las Vegas , for example, he worked with Wayne Newton for many years .

The television series The Love Stewardesses concluded Barry's screen career in 1978. He was married to his wife Virginia until his death, they had four sons and a daughter. He died of cancer ten days before his 83rd birthday.
