Dave Yar (r) as (sometimes also David Yar (r) as ) alias Dave “Yiddles” Miller (* 1912 in Chicago ; † January 1974 ) was a killer of the American La Cosa Nostra . Today it is included in the Kosher Nostra .

Life

Ragen's Colts

Dave Yaras was a childhood friend of Jack Ruby , who was later to shoot the alleged Kennedy assassin Lee Harvey Oswald . Jack Ruby, alias Jacob Rubenstein , had joined the Yaras youth gang, who at the time was still known as Dave "Yiddles" Miller . Miller was a member of the Ragen's Colts , an Irish-dominated gang in Chicago that was most influential in the late 1920s and early 1930s. During his time with the Colts, he worked with the likes of Charles "Babe" Baron and Leonard "Lenny" Patrick . In 1924 he was shot in a conflict with the North Side Gang by Dean O'Banion for insulting a member of their group, Julius "Yankee" Schwartz. The Ragen's Colts then became part of the Chicago outfit under Al Capone .

Cuba

Yaras worked for La Cosa Nostra in Cuba after the Second World War . This made him the contact person for organized crime with the community of Cuban exiles after the revolution in Cuba . Yaras was considered an important liaison between Chicago , Miami and Havana . He also worked as a contract killer for Sam Giancana and was involved in various murders, but was only arrested fourteen times without conviction.

Continental Press

With the help of his buddies Bugsy Siegel , Jack Dragna and Mickey Cohen , Gus Greenbaum succeeded in 1928 in controlling the "Trans-America Wire Service" in the southwest, which in particular transmitted the results of sports betting. Carlos Marcello wanted to complete the monopoly by taking over Continental Press , but James M. Ragen , who had bought it from Moe Annenberg on November 15, 1939 , refused .

The trick of the news monopoly was to give the mobsters an information advantage, because today's mass media, which published sports results immediately, did not exist back then. It also made it possible to market bets outside of z. B. the horse racing tracks possible.

On August 15, 1946, Ragen was murdered; a not entirely risky approach: Ragen belonged to the Ragen's Colts and his brother Frank Ragen had even made it to the police chief of Chicago . In 1947, Yaras was arrested for his possible involvement in the crime. Four witnesses claimed to have recognized him, Lenny Patrick and William Block as marksmen. In addition, Gus Alex and Strongy Ferraro are said to have been involved in the murder.

When one of these witnesses was murdered, two witnesses withdrew their testimony and the fourth went into hiding. The Kefauver Committee later found in its ex-post investigation that the assassination was a key event and that another important witness had been murdered. Yaras was released and never arrested again.

Dallas

Furthermore, his involvement, along with Fiore Buccieri , Jackie "The Lackey" Cerone , James "Turk" Torello , Samuel "Mad Sam" DeStefano , in the murder of loan shark William "Action" Jackson is assumed. An important source of income for Yaras were gaming machines , which he operated in Dallas in particular .

There were also close ties to the Teamsters union under Jimmy Hoffa , whom he helped set up the "Local 320" union branch in Miami in 1957 when Rolland McMaster was sent to Florida for this purpose . The mafioso Santo Trafficante, Jr. moved into an office in the new office, which in turn worked for the CIA on matters relating to Cuba. In the 1960s, Yaras worked with Trafficante in Miami.

The night before the assassination attempt on John F. Kennedy , Yaras phoned the hit man Barney Baker , another helper in setting up "Local 320", with whom Jack Ruby had also phoned a few days earlier. Yaras was interrogated by the FBI and did not give any information, but admitted to meeting Jack Ruby and David Ferrie in 1964 .

In 1974 David Yaras died of a heart attack on a golf course in Miami . That same year, Yara's son Ronnie was murdered in Miami. In 1985, Yara's second son Leonard was shot dead in Chicago.
