David Bartels
Johann Christoph David Bartels , von Bartels from 1846 (born April 30, 1790 in Nuremberg , † after 1862 ) was Bavarian Councilor of Commerce and Consul General of Cologne .
Life
David Bartels was a merchant and city councilor in Cologne. From around 1830 he campaigned for the construction of the Ludwig-Süd-Nord-Bahn and organized the first rail delivery. In 1831 he was appointed royal consul in Cologne. In the meantime, from 1833 he was also the Royal Greek Consul .
In 1836 he was made an honorary citizen of Bamberg for his efforts to combine shipping on the Main with shipping on the Rhine . He was also given the title of Royal Bavarian Commerce Council. Through his work he became the main agent of the Rheinschifffahrts-Assekuranz-Gesellschaft and the Agrippina Sea, River and Land Transport Insurance Company .
In 1843 Franz Liszt gave a concert in Nuremberg and played on a grand piano that belonged to David Bartels.
At the end of 1845 he was awarded the knight class and thus the bestowal of personal nobility for his services . He was also made a Bavarian citizen ( indigenous ). In 1850 he was promoted to the Royal Bavarian Consul General .
Together with a business partner, he founded an ultramarine factory in 1855 , which later ran into financial difficulties. In 1862 an indictment followed against David von Bartels; his business partner had died in 1861; in Coburg because of reckless and wanton bankruptcy . In November 1862 the sentence was pronounced with the maximum sentence of 1 year in prison.
David Bartels was married to Gertrud Walburga Neumann from Cologne. Their son was the later Commerzienrat Johann Joseph Ludwig Hubert Bartels (1837–1898).
