Sir David William Brewer KG Kt CMG CVO (born May 28, 1940 ) is a British insurance broker and former Lord Mayor of London and Lord Lieutenant of Greater London .

He attended St Paul's School in London and studied at Grenoble University in France . From 1959 he made a career with a large company for marine insurance and was temporarily employed in Japan , China and India . From 2005 to 2006 he was Lord Mayor of the City of London and from 2008 to 2015 Lord Lieutenant of Greater London. Today he is a member of the supervisory board of the inter-dealer broker Tullett Prebon (since 2006), of the National Bank of Kuwait (since 2007) and of the futures exchange LIFFE (since 2009).

On February 28, 2007 he was ennobled as a Knight Bachelor and received the Japanese Order of the Rising Sun (3rd grade) in the same year . He was named Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George in 1999, Knight of the Order of St John in 2006 and Commander of the Royal Victorian Order in 2015. On April 23, 2016 he was inducted into the Order of the Garter as a Knight Companion .

He is married and has two daughters.
