David Bunts

David Bunts (born October 14, 1979 in Atlanta ) is an American basketball coach and former player.

Life

Bunts played basketball from 1998 to 2000 in his home country, the United States, at the College of Marin (state of California ) and from 2000 to 2002 at the University of the Pacific , also in California. For Pacific (first NCAA division) he played a total of 57 games and scored an average of 4.5 points per encounter.

The development player turned professional after his university days and was briefly under contract with the Finnish first division club Honka Espoo at the beginning of the 2004/05 season , before moving to Germany to the regional league club TSVE Bielefeld during the season . There Bunts triumphed as a player with strong finals and, as Player of the Year in the 1st Regionalliga West (named by the internet basketball service eurobasket.com ), played a decisive role in Bielefeld's  promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga ProB in 2007 . Bunts was also one of the best attacking players in the ProB, but missed relegation in the third highest German league with the team in the 2007/08 season. After relegation, Bunts played with Bielefeld again in the regional league before moving to TV Salzkotten in the course of the 2008/09 game year within this division . For the 2009/10 season he joined the Schwelmer Baskets  and rose with the team under the direction of coach Raphael Wilder  in the spring of 2010 from the regional league to the 2nd Bundesliga ProB. There he completed the main round 2010/11 with Schwelm as first in the table. The American played in Schwelm until December 2011.

Bunts switched to coaching and looked after the second division women of TSVE Bielefeld from 2012 to 2014. His wife Natascha (née Pareigis) was one of his players. In 2014, Bunts switched to the women at TK Hannover, where he was assistant coach to Rodger Battersby . As Battersby's assistant, Bunts contributed to the Hanoverians' promotion to the Bundesliga in 2016. As Battersby was unable to spend as much time in the run-up to the 2018/19 season for professional reasons, Bunts was promoted to head coach. At the end of 2018, the TKH women were in sixth place in the Bundesliga under the leadership of the American. This was assessed as unsatisfactory by the team management and Bunts was dismissed in December 2018.

For the 2019/20 season, Bunts returned to TSVE Bielefeld and took over the coaching position for the men's team as well as tasks in the youth field. At the end of May 2020 he was introduced as the new coach of the regional league men at BBG Herford.
