Rodger Battersby

Rodger "Rüdiger" Battersby (born July 27, 1957 in Heaton) is a British basketball coach .

career

Battersby, whose mother was German and whose father was British, moved to Hanover after his youth in England shortly before graduating from high school  and started playing basketball at the age of 19. He played at TK Hanover and in 1978 initially took over as a coach for the women's team at TKH. It was the beginning of decades of work as a trainer for the TKH women. In 1996 and 2012 Battersby, who worked full-time in the chemical industry, led to promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga and in 2016 to promotion to the women's basketball league . In the 2015/16 season he was named coach of the year in the 2nd Bundesliga North by the basketball service eurobasket.com . Battersby, whose trademark is his mustache and a red tie, promptly led the TKH women as a league newcomer to the championship round of the Bundesliga in the 2016/17 season, but in the first round they were eliminated by later runner-up Keltern. In the run-up to the 2018/19 season, Battersby stepped down for professional reasons and transferred the coaching office to his assistant David Bunts or, after his dismissal in December 2018, Dorothea Richter . Battersby took on a different managerial role as manager of the TKH women.
