The Tucson Arizona Kings are a band founded in 2011 in Wiesbaden by singer and guitarist Achim Horsinka and bassist Andreas Lüttke, who have dedicated themselves to "Country Trash".
style
The band's repertoire consists of English-language original compositions. The founding members Achim Horsinka and Andreas Lüttke are responsible for the songwriting. They describe their style as “a mixture of rock, country and punk” (called “cowpunk” in English). The band's acoustic concerts were already considered an insider tip in the local scene in 2014 because of their “sensitive melodies” with moments of surprise. The scene portal Sensor praised the powerful implementation of the mix of styles and attested the band to emotionally charged shows. The lyrics of her songs deal with everyday issues such as heartache, consumerism or new media. The musician trade magazine Guitar & Bass compares the style of the 2018 album Karma But Karma with the spirit of the Rolling Stones in Sticky Fingers - times, memories of Neil Young and partly the elegance of Calexico . The direction is given by the acoustic guitar with crisp strumming or introverted pickings. With a melancholic voice and phrasing with long pauses, front man & guitarist Achim Horsinka surprises time and again. In addition, it is emphasized how depth is created on Karma But Karma with few instruments. Furthermore, the musician trade magazine Guitar & Bass describes in the June 2020 issue that Achim Horsinka (guitar and vocals) and Frank Burger (drums) decided to continue as a duo after the bassist left in 2019. Nothing was rearranged for upcoming concerts and they set about recording a new, third album with this line-up, which was released in April 2020 with the programmatic title No Bass But Balls . The powerful vocals, battered acoustic guitar and driving drums move between rock, folk and country. A baritone guitar and a Moog synthesizer were also used in the studio . In addition, background vocals, pedal steel guitar , harmonium , percussion and kazoo color the songs. Achim's acoustic guitar always sounds full and lively. Some songs on No Bass But Balls also feature an electric bass and an electric guitar. A punk version of REM's It's The End Of The World is also performed. The eleven songs were recorded in just three days and the resulting energy can be heard on No Bass But Balls .
