David D. Kpormakpor

David Donald Kpormakpor (born September 28, 1935 in Bomi County , Liberia , † August 19, 2010 in Staten Island , New York City ) was Liberia's head of state from 1994 to 1995 during the Liberian Civil War as chairman of the State Council.

Life

David Kpoormakor was born in Bomi County in western Liberia. His parents, who belonged to the Gola ethnic group , were illiterate. With the support of a missionary, Kpormakpor was accepted into the College of West Africa in Monrovia . Upon graduation, he received scholarships to San Francisco State University and UCLA Law School . After completing his studies, he returned to Liberia and taught as a law professor at the University of Liberia . By Samuel Doe , he was appointed as a judge to the Supreme Court.

After the resignation of the interim government under Amos Sawyer , Kpormakor was from March 7, 1994 to September 1, 1995 as the civilian chairman of the State Council of Liberia, which was composed of representatives of the conflicting parties. However, the influence of his government extended only to the vicinity of the capital Monrovia. In September 1995, under pressure from Charles Taylor, a new State Council was convened under the leadership of Wilton GS Sankawulo . Kpormakpor was imprisoned for two months and then lived in a military camp guarded by the African peacekeeping force ECOMOG . In 1997 he returned to the USA. On August 19, 2010, he died on Staten Island of complications from a brain tumor.
