Professional and academic career

After completing his school education, Ellensohn worked between 1982 and 1983 as an employee in the financial accounting of a textile company. He then studied business administration and political science , which he dropped out in 1990 without a degree. Afterwards Ellensohn worked from 1991 to 2001 as (chief) editor of the "Sportzeitung".

Political career

According to his own statements, David Ellensohn was politicized by the discussion about the Zwentendorf nuclear power plant and the construction of the power plant near Hainburg . Between 1996 and 2001 he was a district councilor or club chairman in the 15th district of Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus in Vienna , and between 1997 and 2001 he was also a member of the state board of the Vienna Green Party. During the years 2000 and 2001 Ellensohn was also the deputy of the state spokesperson Monika Vana . In 2001 Ellensohn was elected to the Vienna State Parliament and City Council, where he worked in the areas of housing, sports & leisure, media and consumer protection. In 2004 he replaced Maria Vassilakou as non-executive city councilor, who moved back to the state parliament and local council and took over the chairmanship of the club. Ellensohn ran in the state and municipal council elections in 2010 in second place on the green state list and in first place in the Penzing constituency. After losses in the state elections, the Greens lost one of their two seats in the state government, but coalition negotiations with the SPÖ in November 2010 led to the first red-green coalition at state level. Maria Vassilakou then moved to the state government as deputy mayor and acting city councilor, while Ellensohn took over the role of Vassilakou's club chairman.

criticism

In 2001 Ellensohn was criticized after he wrote literally in an email to the young ÖVP Penzing "You wankers, you can shove your fuck fantasies up your ass."

In May 2019 Ellensohn and the Green Club in the Vienna City Hall were sentenced to a total of 5000 euros fine and publication of the judgment for defamation . He had instructed the press officer in Norbert Hofer's (FPÖ) department to deliberately use extension 8818 as a Nazi code. Since this extension has existed since 2014 and also among other ministers and press officers, the employee did not have to put up with the insinuation that he was close to Nazi ideas.

Private

David Ellensohn is married and has three children.
