State and local council elections in Vienna 2020

The regional and municipal council elections in Vienna 2020 are to take place on October 11, 2020 together with the district representative elections .

Starting position

In 2020, 1,133,010 people are entitled to vote, 597,027 women and 535,983 men.

Election 2015

In the 2015 state parliament and municipal council elections, the SPÖ with its then top candidate Michael Häupl , despite a loss of 4.75% with 39.59% of the votes, came in second place with the FPÖ with top candidate Heinz-Christian Strache , it came in at 30 , 79%. The other parties that moved into the Vienna state parliament or municipal council were: the Greens - The Green Alternative with 11.84% (top candidate: Maria Vassilakou ), the ÖVP with 9.24% (top candidate: Manfred Juraczka ) and NEOS with 6.16% (top candidate: Beate Meinl-Reisinger ). This result was the worst for the ÖVP, the second worst for the SPÖ and the best result for the FPÖ in a Viennese state parliament and local council election since 1945. After the election, a state government made up of the SPÖ and the Greens was formed under Mayor Michael Häupl and Vice Mayor Maria Vassilakou.

Nine parties are competing across Vienna (with the following top candidates):
Three lists only run in some constituencies:
  • Volt Austria : constituencies center (districts 1, 4, 5, 6) and inner-west (districts 7, 8, 9)
  • WIFF ( We for Floridsdorf ): constituency Floridsdorf
  • PRO (Pro23 - List Ernst Paleta): Liesing
