District representative election in Vienna 2020

The district representative election in Vienna 2020 is to take place on October 11, 2020 and will be held together with the 2020 state and local council elections.

Starting position

The last district council election took place on October 11, 2015. The deadline for submitting nominations was August 14, 2020. 1,362,789 people are eligible to vote in the 2020 district council elections, 712,131 women and 650,658 men. This also includes 229,779 non-Austrian EU citizens who are eligible to vote .

Campaigning parties

The following campaigning parties stand for election in all districts:

  • BEER - BEER - The beer party : for all district representatives with the exception of the 1st district
  • SÖZ - Social Austria of the Future: for 19 district representations, but not for the 1st, 4th, 6th and 8th district.
  • VOLT - Volt Austria : for the 2nd to 10th district and the 21st district
  • KURZ - List KURZ : for the 2nd, 3rd and 16th district
  • VOLK - VOLK - Decide together: for the 2nd district
  • WANDL - Change - If you want change, you have to choose change !: for the 7th district
  • PH - Pro Hetzendorf: for the 12th district
  • WIR - WIR Hietzing: for the 13th district
  • PdA - Party of Labor Austria: for the 16th district
  • WIFF - We for Floridsdorf : for the 21st district
  • VIENNA - Mein Wien: for the 21st district
  • PRO - Pro23: List Ernst Paleta - for a Liesing worth living!

Mandates

In the election of the district council, 1,144 mandates are awarded in the district councils of Vienna. Depending on the number of inhabitants, 40 to 60 mandates are distributed per district. The number of members of the district councils to be elected in each district was determined by the mayor's ordinance of March 10, 2014, Official Gazette of the City of Vienna, No. 13 of March 27, 2014.

Inner city

The deputy head of the inner city district of Vienna, Mireille Ngosso , did not get a majority at the district conference as the SPÖ top candidate for the district representative elections. The FPÖ top candidate for the first district was Ursula Stenzel , the ÖVP top candidate is district chairman Markus Figl .

Margareten

The district leader of the 5th district of Vienna Margareten Susanne Schaefer-Wiery resigned from the SPÖ in February. Silvia Jankovic was elected as the SPÖ's top candidate for the Margareten district.

Josefstadt, Währing

A change in the majority seems to be possible in the districts of Josefstadt (previously ÖVP district head) and Währing (previously Green district head).
