District council election in Vienna 2010
The district representative election in Vienna 2010 was carried out on October 10, 2010 and held together with the 2010 state and municipal council elections.
Summary
In the election, the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) suffered heavy losses and, after a loss of 6.4% compared to 2005, only achieved 41.3% of the vote. Nevertheless, the SPÖ was able to defend its majority in 16 district representations and also won the majority on the Wieden . This means that the SPÖ has provided 17 of the 23 district heads since 2010 and also achieved second place in the six of the seven remaining districts, which means that the SPÖ has one deputy district head each there.
The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) also posted heavy losses and, after a minus of 3.3%, only achieved 15.6%. In addition to losing the majority in the Wieden district, the ÖVP was able to recapture the majority in Josefstadt from the Greens. This means that the ÖVP continues to provide five district heads. At the same time, however, the ÖVP no longer reached 2nd place in any district and thus lost all of its previous seven deputy district councilors.
The Green Vienna stagnated in the election and had to accept a minus of 0.6% at district level. With 15.2%, however, they achieved their second-best result so far. After a split in the party, the Greens fell back to 2nd place in Josefstadt (the Genuine Green list came up as competition ) and thus lost the post of district chairman to the ÖVP, and the Greens lost two district chairman deputies to the FPÖ while they won that position in two other districts.
The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) was able to gain 9.7% after the heavy losses in 2005 and took second place with 23.5%. The FPÖ was able to achieve second place in 12 districts and was thus able to increase its entitlement from five to 12 district chairman deputy positions.
Of the other candidate parties, only the Austrian Communist Party (KPÖ) was able to defend one mandate in two districts and the PRO Hetzendorf list in the Meidling district . New in the district representations is the Echt Grün list - Heribert Rahdjian ( Echt Josefstadt ) list of the former district chairman of Josefstadt with five mandates, the Wir für Floridsdorf (WIFF) and Wir im Erste lists with two mandates each and the KPÖ in a third district represented with another mandate.
