District representative election in Vienna 1996
The district representative elections in Vienna 1996 were held on October 23, 1996 together with the 1996 state and municipal council elections.
Summary
The Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) lost almost 10 percentage points to 37.73. The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) lost only relatively little with 3.03 percentage points and thus achieved 17.91%. The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) was able to increase its election result from 1991 by 6.26% and thus came to 26.47%. The Liberal Forum , which ran for the first time, reached 6.97%. The Greens lost 0.26%. Other small parties were able to gain a total of 1.46%.
After the election, the SPÖ provided 16, the ÖVP seven of the 23 district leaders .
